PSG closing in on deal for Lucas Beraldo

According to Foot Mercato, PSG are close to sealing the deal to sign São Paulo FC’s young centre-back Lucas Beraldo (20), in a transfer worth around €20 million + €5 million in bonuses. His agent reportedly confirmed the transfer was nearly complete, and that the medical test could occur as soon as this week.

The question remains whether the player will join the Parisians this winter, or if he will stay at his club in Brazil until next summer. PSG already have experienced players in Marquinhos (29), Milan Skriniar (28), Lucas Hernández (27) and Danilo Pereira (32) to play the position, though Hernández has been playing at left-back, and Presnel Kimpembe (28) is still struggling with injuries, which could mean that Luis Enrique would want Beraldo immediately.

Lucas Beraldo, one of Brazil’s most promising centre-backs

If Paris were to complete the signing, they would have in their hands one of the top centre-back prospects in the world. Left-footed, the 20-year-old is an elegant ball-playing defender, who appears full of serenity when carrying the ball forward, surprising in maturity considering his age. He is equally defensively solid, always well positioned and sharp in duels, showing to be dominant in the air regardless of his height (1.82m).

No doubt his calm and collected profile would be a big value added to the current PSG side, who in recent times have struggled against high presses, notably against Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
