Ajax in talks with Metz to sign Georges Mikautadze

Having topped the Ligue 2 scoring charts last season with 23 strikes, and playing a key role in Metz’s promotion to Ligue 1, Georgian international Georges Mikautadze has inevitably been in demand this summer.

But despite apparent interest from clubs in France and beyond, the Lyon-born 22-year-old is still with Les Grenats, and scored his first goal of the season last week against Marseille. He previously found the net 36 times during a two-year loan spell with Seraing, in Belgium.

According to L’Équipe this afternoon, as initially reported by De Telegraaf, Ajax are the latest team to be keen on bringing in Mikautadze. The Lorraine side reportedly want €20m for the forward, who is under contract for another three seasons, and talks are underway with the Dutch giants over a potential sale. Ajax have also identified Argentine World Cup winner Thiago Almada, of Atlanta United in the MLS, as a potential attacking recruit as well.
