Metz midfielder Kévin N’Doram has been called up by the league disciplinary commission after using a homophobic slur in a half-time interview, as reported by Le Parisien today.
The 27-year-old appeared before the cameras after the newly-promoted side had gone 1-0 down to Marseille at home, in the curtain-raiser for the second matchday of the new Ligue 1 season.
Expressing his frustration at his team’s showing, N’Doram used a homophobic slur to describe the performance: “Excuse me for the term, but we played like f**s. We are afraid to play with the ball.”
The former Monaco man would apologise for his language after the end of the game. While initial reports indicated he could be hit with a three-match ban, the sanction could go as high as ten games, according to Le Parisien today. While “offensive/rude behaviour” on the pitch would usually see players sidelined for three matchdays, as per the French FA guidelines, this can be increased if the player is found to have acted in a “discriminatory” fashion. N’Doram has been called up to the disciplinary commission, which will meet on August 30.
