Three Ligue 1 clubs chase Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr

Tottenham’s Senegalese international and former Metz midfielder, Pape Mater Sarr, is attracting interest from a group of leading Ligue 1 sides as the new Spurs coach, Ange Postecoglou, looks to overhaul his squad for the new season.

Sarr, still just 20 years old, has suffered through a fluctuating Spurs career to date. He was signed for around €25m, including bonuses, from Metz back in 2021 and was loaned back to the struggling side for the 21/22 campaign. Metz were swiftly relegated with Sarr losing his place in the first team in the process, despite an impressive breakout campaign the year before.

Sarr played just 466 minutes upon his return to London last term, enduring a difficult season that saw Spurs miss out on European football and suffer the sackings of Antonio Conte and later his assistant, the interim manager Christian Stellini, after the 6-1 thrashing by Newcastle. This was just Sarr’s second start for the club – he was subbed after just 23 minutes.

With another loan likely for the coming season, Le10Sport report that Marseille are following the midfielder’s progress, with president Pablo Longoria a fan of the player. Rennes and Lille are also both keen to sign the player. Spurs have not yet sanctioned a loan, but all three clubs are expected to compete for the talented midfielder when the word is given, as expected.
