Rennes forward Martin Terrier (26) is expected to return to Bruno Genesio’s playing squad this weekend.
The Bretons host bitter rivals Nantes on Sunday night. Rennes, who have drawn their last five league games, might be able to rely on the 26-year-old striker, whose purple patch ended brutally last January. Terrier sustained a serious ACL injury and also damaged his meniscus. Before his injury, Terrier had 17 goal contributions, including 12 strikes, in 22 games played last season. Nine months on, his road to recovery is complete.
Genesio confirmed in his pre-game press conference, transcribed by Ouest-France, that Terrier could be called upon against Pierre Aristouy’s side on Sunday. “Martin is in contention to be in the squad on Sunday. He is not yet ready to start but he could come off the bench. For how long? We’ll see.“
Terrier’s return is welcome news for Genesio given the lack of attacking edge of Stade Rennais recently. Neither Amine Gouiri nor Arnaud Kalimuendo have so far shown enough credentials to be considered Rennes’ undisputed striker in the absence of Terrier.
