L’Équipe are reporting that Olympique Lyonnais have been impressed by Pierre Sage’s impact since taking interim charge of the club and are therefore considering extending his stint as manager.
Sage replaced Fabio Grosso, who was relieved of his duties last week after only seven games in charge of the club. Having been promoted from his role as head of the academy, Sage was thought to be a short-term appointment with a recruitment process for a long-term successor ongoing.
However, Lyon put in a good performance against RC Lens, despite losing 3-2. Individual errors proved costly for Les Gones who remains rock bottom of Ligue 1.
Genesio and Sampaoli deals on standby
The performance was promising and seduced not only Lyon’s supporters, who have taken quickly to Sage, but also the club’s executives. It was already confirmed that Sage would be in the dugout for Lyon’s match against Olympique de Marseille on Tuesday, however, he could remain manager for the match against Toulouse FC next weekend, and perhaps even beyond.
Lyon are keen to see how Sage does in the post before opting for another managerial change. Jorge Sampaoli and Bruno Genesio are the favourites to take the role at OL, but the deals are currently on standby.
