Aleksandr Golovin on his Monaco future: ‘I am happy here at the moment.’

Aleksandr Golovin (27) has said that he is happy at AS Monaco and is not looking for a transfer. The Russian international is currently in his best period of form since his €30m move from CSKA Moscow back in 2018.

Golovin admitted that he initially struggled to adapt in Monaco following his move from Russia. “I’ve been playing for a long time here; two years of that was adaptation. It was difficult to move from Russia to here. It took me two years to show my best quality. I also started to find friends in the dressing room and this helped me a lot,” said the playmaker in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.

Injuries have also been a major factor limiting Golovin’s potential in recent seasons, however, having put a particular focus on avoiding muscular injuries in recent months, he is now playing uninhibited. He is therefore showing his best form with Adi Hütter calling him one of the best players in Ligue 1.

‘Golovin is one of the best players in the league’ – Hütter

Golo’ is exceptional. He really is in top form currently. We need him. He is a fantastic player and I hope that he will continue to be decisive […] I think he can do even better but I don’t want to set him any objectives. He is one of the best players in the league,” said the Monaco manager in early November.

However, there is currently no question of a departure for Golovin, who extended his contract with the Principality club until 2026 back in February. Asked if he wished to remain with Les Monégasques until the end of his career, he responded: “It is difficult to answer. I am happy here at the moment. It is difficult to think about the future. I am focused on the here and now and on the club. I extended it (the contract) because I am happy here. I have no doubts about that.”
