Union-Saint Gilloise’s Cameron Puertas being monitored by Marseille, Monaco and Rennes

According to Foot Mercato, Olympique de Marseille, AS Monaco and Stade Rennes are all among the clubs in the race to sign Union Saint-Gilloise midfielder Cameron Puertas (25).

The Spaniard is currently in top form with the Belgian club, both in the Jupiler Pro League and in the Europa League, where they are competing in Toulouse FC’s Group E. The complete midfielder, who is part of a double pivot in Alexander Blessin’s 3-4-1-2 setup, sticks out due to his elegant ball-carrying and energetic verticality, which allows him to quickly get into the final third, before playing one of his teammates through, or even at times getting himself onto the scoresheet, having scored four goals this season. Most notably though, he is leading the assist ranking for all European top leagues, totalling 14 assists in all competitions.

Cameron Puertas, following the steps of Teddy Teuma

Although he joined the club back in the winter of 2022, having been bought for only €1.16 million from FC Lausanne-Sport, the 25-year-old has only started getting proper game time this season, following the departure of equally impressive Teddy Teuma (30) to Stade de Reims in the summer. Puertas could therefore also be on the path towards Ligue 1, although a transfer as soon as this winter would come as a surprise, considering his importance in the Saint-Gilloise team.

The Belgian side evidently have something good going on in their scouting department, launching exciting and relatively unknown talents onto the scene every season, another example being Mohamed Amoura (23), who they picked up for €4 million this summer from FC Lugano, and already looks like he won’t be staying at the club for long either, having already scored nine goals in 14 games this season.

No doubt, however, that USG will have already found their replacements when the time to sell Puertas and Amoura does come.
