Thursday 20th June 2013:

Despite the President of Evian claiming this week that not a single bid has been made for attacking midfielder Saber Khilfa, we have information to suggest otherwise. Khilfa was in fact very close to signing for Bordeaux and Marseille already this transfer window. Before Evian decided to price Khilfa at €5m, Bordeaux were close to agreeing a deal for around €3m, but Khilfa did not want to commit to the club and say yes, waiting for other offers. In the end, Bordeaux grew tired of waiting and delivered an ultimatum which Khilfa rejected.

Marseille were also close to agreeing a deal for Khilfa, but Evian decided to change their asking price halfway through negotiations. Marseille President Vincent Labrune is reported to have been unimpressed, but that does not mean OM won’t turn back if other transfer targets fail.

In recent days Lille have been linked with Khilfa as a replacement for the outgoing Dimitri Payet. We shall see.
