Foot Mercato are reporting that Everton are showing an interest in Olympique Lyonnais defender Jake O’Brien (22), who only joined the club for €1m from Crystal Palace in the summer.
There isn’t much room for optimism at Lyon this season. The club are rock bottom of Ligue 1 having won just one game all season. However, O’Brien has certainly been a bright spark. The Ireland U21 international has scored Lyon’s last three goals in Ligue 1 and is the club’s joint-top scorer, alongside Alexandre Lacazette with three goals.
His performances have come as a surprise, as despite arriving at the Groupama Stadium in August, it was expected that he would leave on loan to get more first-team experience. However, he quickly impressed then-manager Laurent Blanc before consolidating his place in the starting line-up under Fabio Grosso.
O’Brien is now attracting interest from the Premier League, specifically from Everton, who have been tracking the centre-back. However, the player is happy at Lyon and the club, embroiled in a fight for survival in Ligue 1, seem unwilling to let a key player leave in January.
