Lyon interested in signing Chelsea’s Benoît Badiashile on loan

According to Foot MercatoLyon are interested in signing Benoît Badiashile (22) on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window. After a difficult start to the season, OL are looking to bolster their squad with reinforcements in the winter window, with a reported €50m to spend. One of these areas they are looking to strengthen is the centre of defence.

Sinaly Diomandé is expected to depart Lyon in the January window with increasingly limited minutes since Pierre Sage took interim charge of the Rhône club. The expected departure of the Ivorian international makes the need to sign a replacement even more pressing. Les Gones are targeting Chelsea defender Benoît Badiashile.

The former France U21 international is no stranger to Ligue 1 following his time with Monaco before he completed a €37m transfer to Stamford Bridge. The former Monaco defender only made his first appearance of the season on the 1st November after suffering a hamstring injury in May.

Positive relations making a deal possible?

Lyon are reported to have strong relationships with the officials at Chelsea following the transfer dealings of Malo Gusto and Diego Moreira in recent transfer windows. The positive relations between Todd Boehly and John Textor could make a deal easier to negotiate. However, despite being OL’s priority, it remains to be seen if Badiashile would be interested in returning to France albeit temporarily.
