Pierre Sage to remain Lyon manager until winter break

RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins is reporting that Pierre Sage is set to remain Olympique Lyonnais manager until the international break.

Sage, who was promoted from his role at Lyon’s academy to replace Fabio Grosso at the end of November, has overseen an uptick in form in recent weeks. Only individual errors prevented OL from salvaging at least a point against RC Lens (3-2), and despite a heavy defeat to Olympique de Marseille in the Choc des Olympiques (3-0), Sage oversaw only Lyon’s second victory of the season against Toulouse FC (3-0).

Had OL lost that game, Sage’s departure would likely have been confirmed, however, thanks to the victory, he will be allowed to remain as interim manager until the winter break. He will therefore be in the dugout for the matches against AS Monaco and FC Nantes.

The long-term future of the managerial position at OL is still uncertain. Bruno Genesio and Jorge Samapoli had emerged as the frontrunners. Sage could put himself in the running for the job in the event of two good results before the winter break. Either way, Les Gones are affording themselves plenty of time to make the right decision. The club are currently bottom of Ligue 1 and have already sacked two managers this season.
