‘Maybe he wants to come back’ – Lens manager Franck Haise open to Raphaël Varane return

Speaking in a press conference in late November, Franck Haise has said that he would be open to Raphaël Varane (30) returning to RC Lens, however, he admitted that pulling off the deal may be difficult.

Varane has slipped down the pecking order at Manchester United, and he is being linked with a departure from the Premier League club, potentially as early as January. The former France international attracted interest from Saudi Arabia during the summer transfer window, and the Gulf State could reignite their interest in the coming weeks.

As reported by Sports ZoneManchester United are open to offers for the former Real Madrid centre-back, whilst Sky Sports have reported an interest from Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.

However, is there a chance that Varane could make a move back to formative club RC Lens? The Frenchman came through the ranks at Les Sang et Or, making 24 appearances for the first team before securing his move to Real Madrid in 2010. Haise said that Varane would always be welcome at the Bollaert, but he conceded that the financial aspect could be difficult.

If Raphaël wants to come back, he’s always welcome with open arms. With a contract, that’s another thing (laughs). I read that it was difficult for Bayern Munich to pay his salary, so if it’s difficult for Bayern Munich… But maybe he wants to come back? I don’t know (laughs). It’s a nice debate, but not one for now,” said the Lens manager on 23rd November.
