Lens’ Deiver Machado set for lengthy absence

RC Lens’ Deiver Machado (30) will be out for around two months. The Colombian defender will undergo surgery on a recurring adductor issue.

Machado has struggled with an adductor issue in recent weeks and has been in and out of the team. His unavailability has caused headaches for Franck Haise, who is fighting on two fronts this season and playing once every three to four days. Przemsylsaw Frankowski, who plays on the right rather on the left, has often played in Machado’s absence, with Ruben Aguilar featuring more prominently on the right.

Florian Sotoca also absent against Montpellier

It is Frankowski who replaced Machado during last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Olympique Lyonnais. The Colombian international was withdrawn at half-time during that game and Haise has confirmed that Machado will undergo surgery on the adductor issue next week. He is expected to be absent for around two months.

Machado won’t be the only absentee when Lens travel to face Montpellier HSC on Friday. Florian Sotoca received a red card late-on against Lyon and will therefore be suspended for the tie.
