Luis Enrique’s job won’t come under threat in event of premature PSG Champions League elimination

Paris Saint-Germain’s qualification from their UEFA Champions League group remains in the balance heading into Wednesday’s decider against Borussia Dortmund.

In seasons gone by, Champions League success has been the be all and end all for managers. Mauricio Pochettino won the Ligue 1 title with PSG, but failure to emulate the relative success of his predecessor, Thomas Tuchel, in European competition, put pay to his time at the Parc des Princes. The same went for Christophe Galtier, whose exit at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Round of 16, sealed his fate.

However, the same fate shall not befall Luis Enrique, should they fail to advance to the knockout stages this season. Les Parisiens’ destiny is in their own hands, but should they fail to beat Borusssia Dortmund on Wedensday, their progression would come under threat, should results elsewhere go against them.

Should PSG fail to progress, it would be the first time that the Ligue 1 side fail to do so since QSI’s takeover, but should it happen, it would not threaten Luis Enrique’s position, as reported by RMC Sport. The Spaniard has a two-year deal with the club, and the new culture at the club is geared towards a long-term plan. Win, draw, or defeat, Luis Enrique’s position as PSG manager will be safe regardless on Wednesday. The same certainly was not the case for his predecessors.
