Marseille predicted XI v Rennes: Joaquin Correa out after sustaining injury against Ajax

Joaquin Correa (29) is the only new absentee for Olympique de Marseille as they go in search of their first win in Ligue 1 since early October.

Whilst Marseille have secured qualification in Europe, Gennaro Gattuso’s men are struggling domestically. OM have won just one game in Ligue 1 since the Italian manager replaced Marcelino in September and the side currently languish 12th in the table.

Correa will be absent as Marseille face Stade Rennais at the Vélodrome on Sunday evening. The Argentinian suffered an ankle injury after heavy challenge from Steven Berghuis, which saw the Dutchman red-carded. The severity of Correa’s injury is yet to be ascertained, but his absence could go beyond the match against Rennes.

As a result of Correa’s injury, Gattuso is not blessed with choice up front. After his hat-trick against Ajax, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to lead the line, whilst Iliman Ndiaye is expected to return to the line-up.

Marseille likely lineup v Rennes

Pau Lopez; Michael Murillo, Chancel Mbemba, Samuel Gigot, Jonathan Clauss; Jordan Veretout, Geoffrey Kondogbia; Ismaila Sarr, Amine Harit, Iliman Ndiaye; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. (L’Éq)
