‘There is no problem between me and Bruno Génésio’ – Florian Maurice denies rift with former Rennes manager

In a recent interview with RMC Sport, Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice spoke about the departure of Bruno Génésio and why he decided to remain at Roazhon Park despite the former Lyon manager’s departure as the club’s manager. Julien Stéphan has replaced Génésio as Rennes manager on a contract until the end of the season.

Following the departure of Bruno Génésio, rumours of tensions between the coach and Maurice heightened within French media. However, when quizzed by RMC, the sporting director quashed the rumours: “You can ask everyone at Stade Rennais, there is not one who will tell you that there is a problem between me and Bruno.” Maurice added, “I have my breakfast with him, my lunch with him. If I had had problems with Bruno, I would not have been with him in the morning having my coffee… My relationship with Bruno is perfect and it will stay perfect.”

When it was announced that Bruno Génésio would be leaving his role in charge of Les Rouge et Noirs, many believed that  Florian Maurice would follow the coach out of the club and vacate his role as Rennes sporting director. However, the former Nice and Lyon director of football has decided to retain his position.

The director of football explained his decision to stay at Roazhon Park: “I believe I have done positive things, not everything I do is (positive) far from it, I make mistakes but who doesn’t make them… I haven’t done everything well, I’m aware of it. However, I think I still have a little bit of credit left to be able to continue moving forward.”
