Florian Maurice to remain at Rennes

Stade Rennais have confirmed that technical director Florian Maurice will remain at the club. It had been expected that Mauricw would leave the club in the wake of Bruno Genesio’s departure last week.

With just two wins in the first 12 Ligue 1 games so far this season, Genesio left the club over the weekend. The decision for former Olympique Lyonnais manager Genesio to leave the club was a mutual one, as a club statement confirmed. Personal reasons were cited as a motivation for the manager’s departure, with Julien Stéphan replacing him on a contract that reportedly runs until the end of the season.

Maurice was expected to follow. He was absent from Stéphan’s unveiling on Monday, with president Olivier Cloarec confirming that his technical director could also leave the club. “Florian is currently reflecting on all this. We will take the time we need to make the best decisions. If he’s not here today, it’s because he is heading towards a departure,” said the president in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News

However, in an official statement, released on Thursday, Rennes confirmed that Maurice will stay at the club. “After a short period of reflection, Florian Maurice has confirmed his desire to continue in his position as technical director […] in agreement with the management and the club’s owner,” read the statement.

I repeat my confidence in Florian. His commitment to the Stade Rennais team and his contribution to the project is very strong,” added Cloarec in the press release.
