Jürgen Klopp frustrated by chaotic press conference in Toulouse

As if slumping to a first UEFA Europa League defeat of the season wasn’t enough frustration for Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, the German manager also had to participate in a chaotic post-match press conference, disrupted by the chants of the Toulouse FC faithful.

Liverpool beat Toulouse 5-1 at Anfield a fortnight ago, but they didn’t have things all their own way at the Stadium in Toulouse, far from it. Le TéFéCé manager Carles Martinez Novell warned them as much pre-match. “We have to make them remember the Stadium,” said the Spaniard, who replaced Philippe Montanier in the summer.

Jarell Quansah thought he had salvaged a point for the Merseyside club late on, however, his injury-time effort was ruled out for offside with Toulouse hanging on for a 3-2 win, which saw them close the gap to Liverpool to just two points. Klopp admitted that the Ligue 1 side “deserved” the win on Thursday but cut a frustrated figure in the post-match press conference, bemoaning the decision to disallow Quansah’s late goal and also the organisation of the conference itself.

Klopp’s responses were barely audible over the sound of the Toulouse fans, who celebrated the historic victory. “Who had the idea to organise the press conference here? That would be a really interesting question. Wow,” reacted the Liverpool manager whilst being drowned out by the euphoric chanting of the home supporters.
