Toulouse manager Martinez Novell issues Liverpool warning

Toulouse FC were on the receiving end of a 5-1 humbling by Liverpool at Anfield a fortnight ago, however, ahead of the two side’s upcoming meeting, Carles Martinez Novell struck a defiant tone.

In an open and entertaining match, Liverpool prevailed thanks to goals from Diogo Jota, Wataru Endo, Darwin Nuñez, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah. Thijs Dallinga gave Jürgen Klopp’s side a scare when he equalised for Le TéFéCé early in the first half, cancelling out Jota’s opener, but Martinez Novell’s side were outplayed throughout.

However, the Spanish manager, who replaced Philippe Montanier in the summer, believes there is reason for help as Liverpool visit the Stadium in Toulouse on Thursday night. “Everyone speaks about Anfield. We’ll remember it our whole lives thanks to the atmosphere brought by the Toulouse supporters. Tomorrow (Thursday), the match will be played in front of our fans. Liverpool can suffer too. We need to make them remember the Stadium,” said Novell in a pre-match press conference, transcribed by L’Équipe

Toulouse are in need of points. The Ligue 1 side sit third in Group E with four points, behind Union Saint-Galloise on goal difference and five points away from leaders Liverpool. Le TéFéCé go into the match off the back of a demoralising late defeat to Le Havre over the weekend.
