Angers contact former Auxerre manager Jean-Marc Furlan

According to RMC Sport, managerless SCO Angers have made contact with Jean-Marc Furlan, who managed AJ Auxerre this season before a middle-finger gesture put pay to his time at the recently-promoted club.

Abdel Bouhazama reached a mutual agreement with Angers to leave the club yesterday. The decision came in the wake of the “media pressure” that followed reports of a team talk over the weekend in which he appeared to downplay allegations of sexual assault against his left-back Ilyes Chetti.

Bouhazama leaves an Angers side that are staring down the barrel of relegation to Ligue 2. The club are on a 17-game winless run, which includes 15 defeats. Angers have only 10 points and are 12 points away from safety.

Within that difficult context, Angers have the task of recruiting a new manager and have already contacted Furlan regarding the role. Furlan has been out of work since October after being fired by Auxerre. Whilst poor results were a factor, the decision to part ways with Furlan came after making a middle-finger gesture to Clermont Foot fans.

However, he may now be given a route back into management. Furlan, who has also managed ESTAC Troyes and Stade Brestois, interests Angers, who having already made contact with the Frenchman, now want to meet him. No agreement has yet been reached between Furlan and Angers.
