Al-Ahli making a move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat

PIF-funded Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Ahli are pursuing a move for sought-after Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat (26), according to a report from Foot Mercato. The Moroccan international defensive midfielder came to prominence thanks to his all-action displays with the Atlas Lions during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Morocco became the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the tournament. The 26-year-old has reportedly been in advanced talks with Atlético de Madrid. According to the French publication, Los Colchoneros have indeed found an agreement on personal terms with Amrabat.

However, there is still a gap in valuation between Atlético de Madrid and Fiorentina for the Moroccan international midfielder in transfer fee negotiations. Amrabat is tied to I Viola with a contract set to expire in 2024. To avoid the risk of losing their prized midfielder on a free next summer, Fiorentina have no choice but to cash in on Amrabat now. The spendthrift PIF-funded Saudi Arabian outfits may benefit from the situation. Foot Mercato understands that Al-Ahli have submitted a bit to Fiorentina for Amrabat. However, the latter would reportedly like to remain in Europe as of now.
