Antoine Kombouaré to be dismissed as Nantes head coach

This Sunday’s action saw Nantes lose another six-pointer in the relegation fight, this time against Strasbourg (2-0). Les Canaris are 17th in the Ligue 1 standings with only four games left to play, and have a two-point deficit on 16th-placed Auxerre. The Antoine Kombouaré-led side, despite a remarkable run in Europa League and a Coupe de France final, have completely collapsed in the league standings. Nantes have failed to clinch a league win since February 12, losing 7 and drawing 4 of their last 11 Ligue 1 games.

The wheels have come off FC Nantes, and Kombouaré is nearing the sack, according to a report from Ouest-France. The outlet report that the Kanak is not expected to end the season in the Nantes dugout. His fate could even be sealed as early as today. Kombouaré has reportedly lost his dressing room over controversial, if not frankly baffling, team selections. For instance, during the Coupe de France final 5-1 humbling against Toulouse, Kombouaré fielded Benfica loanee right-sided centre-back João Victor as a left-back. Ten days before, he launched a scathing attack on his players, calling them a “s*** team” after losing away at Auxerre. Nantes will travel away at Toulouse for Ligue 1 matchday 35 on Sunday.
