Paulo Fonseca says he wants to remain manager of Lille

Having been linked with other Ligue 1 clubs as well as West Ham in recent weeks, all signs appear to be pointing to Paulo Fonseca leaving Lille after just one campaign in the north of France.

Despite the reports, though, the Portuguese manager has indicated in this afternoon’s press conference that he intends to stay on next season. Fonseca, who has previously had spells in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk and Roma after leaving his home country, has indicated that he is fully focused on the team’s next match, and that the club would take stock on the past season afterwards:

“We will continue next season.”

Ahead of tomorrow’s final day, Lille are in pole position for a spot in the Europa League, having overtaken Monaco to take fourth spot last week. A win over Troyes on Saturday evening will secure Les Dogues’ return to the continental stage. Fonseca himself has emerged as a candidate to replace David Moyes in the Hammers’ dugout this summer, while also being one of the potential replacements for Didier Digard over at Nice.
