Auxerre entering talks with Benfica for winger Gil Dias

Auxerre have entered talks with Benfica over the signing of Portuguese winger Gil Dias (26), according to a report from Foot Mercato. The newly-promoted Ligue 1 outfit are currently nineteenth-placed in the standings.

Dias is short of game time with the Portuguese league leaders, having made the squad for only four league games with Benfica, where he was an unused substitute on each occasion. The 26-year-old is no stranger to Ligue 1 competition, having joined Monaco from Braga in 2014, but he never made his mark with Les Monégasques and was loaned year in, year out to seven different teams: Varzim, Rio Ave, Fiorentina, Nottingham Forest, Olympiakos, Granada and Famalicão.

Dias then signed for Benfica in 2021 and has scored only one goal since his arrival in the Portuguese capital. According to Foot Mercato, Auxerre have offered the Portuguese side a six-month loan with a €3m buy option. It is reported that the Eagles would like the buy option to be mandatory.
