Christophe Galtier frustrated with PSG’s second half against Angers: “It was complete slackening.”

PSG boss Christophe Galtier was not impressed with his side’s 2-1 away win at Angers for the opening fixture of Ligue 1 gameweek 32 on Friday evening. Thanks to an early Kylian Mbappé brace in the first half, the league leaders were in control of the proceedings against the bottom-placed team. Nevertheless, and not for the first time, Les Parisiens showed complacency and loosened their grip on the game in the second half.

Angers pounced and halved the deficit, but only too late to find an unlikely equaliser. Speaking to Amazon Prime Video, Galtier lauded his team’s thoroughness and efficiency in the first half. But he was less impressed with the second half and launched into a seething assessment of his side’s display. “It was like against Lens last week, it was complete slacking. We just pushed the ball around without any rhythm or desire to put the game to bed.

Galtier then implied he would have given minutes to PSG players short of playing time if the game had been beyond Angers’ reach. The PSG head coach left the pitch with frustration. “We are Paris Saint-Germain, we can’t afford to play only one half, and that’s what we did. There was not much in the second half.” Galtier says his side’s inability to constantly perform for 90 minutes may be down to fatigue as well as mental and physical wear with the season coming to an end. “Even if some of our players have played 50 games this season, it’s still insufficient over the duration of a match.
