Angers have this afternoon announced that Abdel Bouhazama, the long-time head of the youth academy who recently took charge of the first team on an interim basis, has officially left the club after the termination of his contract.
Bouhazama had replaced former manager Gérald Baticle at the turn of the year, with Le SCO sitting in bottom place. His two months in charge did not produce any wins, and instead ended in his stepping down in early March after being accused of downplaying sexual assault during a team talk.
The coach’s team talk saw him tell stunned players that “It’s nothing nasty. We all touched girls before.”, in reference to left-back Ilyes Chetti’s sexual assault case, in which he has since been handed a four-month suspended prison sentence. Bouhazama was then suspended for a month by the league authorities.
The team are still rock bottom, although new manager Alexandre Dujeux did record a win – their first since September – last week against Lille. The western side remain 17 points adrift of safety with seven games to go.
