Lyon’s Bruno Cheyrou: “We need a bit of time.”

Speaking at the ‘Thinking Football Summit,’ Olympique Lyonnais’ Bruno Cheyrou called for patience at the club, despite the difficult start to the season.

Lyon are seemingly in turmoil. Even before the start of the season, there were doubts about Laurent Blanc’s future at the club. Three defeats and one draw later, those doubts have only intensified, to the extent that the club’s hierarchy are already scouring the market for a replacement. According to L’ÉquipeJohn Textor met with former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner in Salzburg on Thursday, whilst according to The Athletic, former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has already rejected an approach from Les Gones.

Lyon, who are currently rock bottom of Ligue 1 with just one point from their opening four games, are also at war with former president Jean-Michel Aulas, who has frozen his share in the club, whilst the club’s summer transfer business was closely scrutinised – and limited – by the DNCG – French football’s financial watchdog.

Amidst this troubling context, Cheyrou, who now occupies multiple functions at the club, has called for patience. “Unfortunately, it isn’t the start to the season that we expected, but a lot has happened in a month and we need a bit of time to get settled so that things can be a bit calmer, and so that we can really concentrate on the work and integrate all of the changes. Unfortunately, we would have preferred to have won some matches, for sure, but it’s perhaps the path we have to take in order to return to happier days in the months to come,” said Cheyrou in an interview transcribed by L’Équipe.
