Official | Head coach Abdel Bouhazama leaves bottom-placed Angers

Angers, Ligue 1’s bottom placed outfit, have announced this afternoon that Abdel Bouhazama is no longer head coach following a mutual decision with the club’s management.

The team are currently winless in 17, including 15 defeats, and have registered just ten points this season, a 5-0 loss to Montpellier over the weekend being the latest debacle to come on the pitch.

In the statement, the club explain that the manager had mulled the move over since the end of February. The announcement goes on to state that he announced his intention to leave to president Saïd Chabane in the wake of the “media pressure” that followed reports of a team talk over the weekend in which he appeared to downplay allegations of sexual assault against his left-back Ilyes Chetti. The club adds that it “unreservedly” condemns Bouhazama’s remarks but insists these were taken out of context and were the result of “clumsiness“, and that he has apologised to staff, and in particular his female colleagues.

Bouhazama was previously head of the team’s youth academy and was named head coach at the turn of the year, replaced Gérald Baticle.
