Angers left-back Ilyes Chetti to appear in court over charges of sexual assault

Ouest-France report this afternoon that Angers left-back Ilyes Chetti is set to appear in court over charges of sexual assault, news which was confirmed by the Ligue 1 club when contacted by the regional outlet.

The alleged events took place in a nightclub in the town of Angers during the World Cup break, and the Algerian international will appear in court in April. The club’s Communications Director Mohamed Sifaoui explained to Ouest-France that Chetti has informed the club of the case, and that they are unaware as to the exact nature of the events.

Sifaoui adds that the club will consider their next steps and speak with Chetti – who is presumed innocent – after his court appearance. The Angers public prosecutor has decided to go to court according to a procedure known as CRPC, which allows for a potential guilty plea.

The defender arrived at the club last summer from Espérance de Tunis and has made five appearances in Ligue 1 this season for the division’s bottom-placed outfit.
