Official | Lamine Fomba leaves Nîmes for Saint-Étienne

Saint-Étienne have announced the signing of Nîmes midfielder Lamine Fomba (25) on a two-and-a-half year contract. Les Verts have been busy this winter transfer window. The French midfielder is the sixth player to join the Forez club this January after goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur, defenders Niels Nkounkou and Dennis Appiah as well as attackers Gaëtan Charbonnier and Kader Bamba. 18th-placed Saint-Étienne have struggled this Ligue 2 season following their relegation from Ligue 1, but the Laurent Batlles-led side are finally kicking on. They won their two last games against relegation-battling rivals Laval and Niort.

Fomba, a AJ Auxerre youth product, spent three Ligue 2 seasons with the Yonne outfit. He joined then Ligue 1 side Nîmes Olympique for a four-year deal. Nîmes were relegated at the end of the 2020-2021 season. This time, Nîmes are in danger of plunging even deeper as the Crocodiles are bottom-placed in Ligue 2 standings. The departure of one of their mainstays, to one of their relegation-battling rivals, is another blow for the Gard outfit.
