Kylian Mbappé’s uncle makes himself manager of US Ivry after sacking coach as president

US Ivry, a National 3 (fifth tier) team in France, has a new coach for the remainder of the season, and it happens to be none other than Kylian Mbappé’s uncle and the club president, Pierre Mbappé.

The decision was made by Mbappé after the side’s lacklustre performance, currently in 7th place and far from their goal of promotion. According to Le Parisien, the previous coach, Jacques-Olivier Paviot, was removed by Mbappé – who installed himself as head coach. This is the second coach to be fired during the Mbappé era, following Patricio D’Amico’s exit last season.

49-year-old Pierre Mbappé is not new to the Ivry team, as he previously coached them from 2008 to 2013, leading them to a promotion from N3 to N2 (formerly CFA 2 to CFA) and nearly securing another promotion to National in 2011. In addition to coaching, he has also served as a sporting director at Sedan and as the president of US Ivry since April 2021.

This is not the first time that a Mbappé family member has been involved in French football management. Kylian Mbappé’s father, Wilfried Mbappé, has previously been a youth coach at Bondy, where Kylian started his football career. Meanwhile, his mother, Fayza Lamari, has served on the board of directors at Bondy.
