Christophe Galtier is Ligue 1’s highest-earning manager, Will Still at the bottom

PSG head coach Christophe Galtier is the best-paid Ligue 1 coach, according to L’Équipe yearly breakdown of salaries released today. With a monthly baseline of €665k, Galtier earns nearly double that of second-placed Marseille manager Igor Tudor, who is on €330k monthly wages.

Galtier was the league’s sixth-best paid manager two years ago when he went on to win the Ligue 1 title with Lille. He doubled his wages following his transfer to INEOS-owned OGC Nice last year with a monthly €330k in wages, and he did so again in the wake of his switch to the French capital. However, Galtier earns less that former PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino used to. The Argentine was the league’s highest-earning coach with a €1.1m monthly salary.

Rennes’ Bruno Génésio is the third-best paid Ligue 1 coach in the wake of his new deal, which is set to expire in 2025. The former Lyon manager is on a €250k salary per month. Lyon’s Laurent Blanc (€230k) and Lille’s Paulo Fonseca (€230k) complete the top 5.

At the other side of the earners’ list, Reims’ coaching sensation Will Still sits at the bottom. The 30-year-old Anglo-Belgian boss is on €18.5k in monthly wages, which is barely more than the minimum of €17.920k established by the coaches’ union. However, Still’s much-discussed lack of a UEFA Pro Licence means that Reims have paid €450k worth of fines since he took over in October. However, Reims hope to quickly be spared of these fines having requested an exemption, because Still has now registered to take the course.
