Les Bleues favourite Hervé Renard suffers defeat in friendly with Saudi Arabia

Hervé Renard, who is being positioned as the potential future coach for the French women’s national team, suffered a 2-1 defeat in a friendly match as coach of the Saudi Arabian men’s side against Venezuela on Friday. Despite being the favorite for the position of the French women’s head coach, Renard is still under contract with Saudi Arabia.

During the match, Solomon Rondon, who now plays for River Plate, was both the assist provider and scorer for the Vinotinto. The Saudi team will face Bolivia in four days, with Renard still set to be on on the sidelines.

Renard’s potential appointment as coach of the French women’s national team was reported by RMC Sport and The Athletic last week. The French team is currently without a coach after Corinne Diacre was dismissed following the withdrawal of key players such as captain Wendie Renard and Marie-Antoinette Katoto from the squad due to the coach’s harsh training methods.

Renard has an impressive track record in international football, having won the African Cup of Nations with both Zambia and Ivory Coast. He also led Saudi Arabia to an incredible win over eventual winners Argentina in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
