Official | Bordeaux sign Slovenian striker Žan Vipotnik

Just days after Josh Maja’s departure on a free transfer was confirmed, Ligue 2 side Bordeaux have already moved to bring in an attacking reinforcement, with Slovenian striker Žan Vipotnik’s arrival being announced today.

The 21-year-old Slovenia international has signed a five-year deal with the Marine et Blanc, joining from Maribor for a fee that regional outlet Sud-Ouest has reported to be €2.8m. Vipotnik was entering the final year of his contract with his formative club.

The centre-forward finished as the top scorer in his home country’s league last season, with 20 goals and adding another 3 in the national cup for a career-best return. He was called up to the senior Slovenian national team for the first time back in March, and scored his first goal on the international stage against Kazakhstan.

Vipotnik was at Bordeaux’s Le Haillan training ground today for the start of Les Girondins‘ pre-season programme. Having narrowly missed out on promotion last season in bizarre circumstances, the team will be aiming for a return to the top flight at the second time of asking. The Slovenian’s arrival should do no harm to their chances.
