Exclusive | Nice looking to offload Kasper Schmeichel before transfer deadline

Get French Football News understands that OGC Nice are attempting to offload Kasper Schmeichel (36) before the closure of the transfer window.

Schmeichel has lost his starting spot at Nice. The Danish goalkeeper was Les Aiglons’ number one last season, following his arrival from Leicester City. Despite a difficult start to life at the Allianz Riviera, Schmeichel finished the season strongly, putting in some key performances, notably against Lille OSC.

However, the club bought Marcin Bulka (23) from Paris Saint-Germain, with a view to the Polish shot-stopper establishing himself as first-choice. Bulka impressed Francesco Farioli in pre-season, and he has now displaced Schmeichel, who has not only not started Nice’s first three games of the Ligue 1 season but hasn’t even made the matchday squad. It was expected that whichever goalkeeper lost in the battle for the number one jersey would depart.

Get French Football News understands that Le Gym are keen to offload Schmeichel today, even if that means a free transfer. However, there is nothing stopping the Danish international from leaving the club after the closure of today’s transfer window.
