The never-ending saga surrounding Kylian Mbappé’s (24) future at Paris Saint-Germain may be set to deliver another twist. According to a report from RMC Sport, Paris Saint-Germain have not given up hope of extending their all-time record goalscorer’s stay in the French capital. Last month, Mbappé informed the Ligue 1 champions that he would not exercice his option to trigger a one-year contract extension that would have seen him remain a PSG player until 2025. However, Les Parisiens have no intention of letting Mbappé run down his contract, which would see him leave on a free transfer.
PSG have therefore launched an ultimatum to the France skipper: leave this summer or extend his contract. So far, Mbappé has indicated that he would spend next season in Paris. The PSG board are reportedly going all-in and “considering every option” to extend their frontman’s contract until 2025. Les Parisiens believe everybody would benefit from such a scenario. Mbappé would still earn the entirety of his mammoth contract he had signed last year whilst PSG would gain a hefty transfer fee should both the club and the player agree to part ways in 2024.
The French outlet believe that the Ligue 1 champions would be ready to draft a more favorable new contract for Mbappé, and not only on financial matters. Mbappé and PSG could set in writing they would part ways in 2024, in order to avoid any misinterpretation of verbal agreements. RMC Sport understand that PSG now need to discuss this with the player’s entourage. Mbappé is reportedly enjoying some downtime in southern France. He is expected to report back for pre-season next Monday.
PSG also believe they have an ace-in-the-hole to win over Mbappé: former beIN Media Group executive Ziad Hammoud. The 44-year-old is poised to manage KEWJF, Mbappé’s image rights management company. RMC believe Hammoud still maintains excellent relationships with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and would be the ideal intermediary in this high-stakes attempt to extend Mbappé’s stay in France.
