Bordeaux to sign Jean Marcelin from Monaco on free transfer

Sud-Ouest report this morning that Ligue 2 side Bordeaux have agreed a deal with Monaco to sign French defender Jean Marcelin on a free transfer.

The transfer will see the 23-year-old freed of the final year of his contract at no cost for Les Girondins, but the Principality side will get a cut of any future transfer.

Pending the completion of his medical, Marcelin will sign a four-year deal with the promotion hopefuls, and become their fourth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Yohann Cassubie from Niort, Gaëtan Weissbeck from Sochaux, and Slovenian forward Žan Vipotnik.

Marcelin first broke through at formative club Auxerre, making 25 first-team appearances in the second tier before moving to Monaco. He was unable to break into the first-team, but did play regularly over two loan spells at Cercle Brugge, playing in 42 games in total. Sud-Ouest add that Bordeaux are also looking to finalise deals for an experienced defensive midfielder and a winger.
