Wayne Rooney refused offers to manage in Saudi Arabia

According to L’Équipe, Wayne Rooney refused several offers to manage in Saudi Arabia in favour of returning to his homeland to manage Birmingham City. The former Manchester United and Everton striker has signed a three and a half year deal at St. Andrews.

Rooney decided to move his family back to the U.K. to take up the opportunity to manage the club partly owned by Tom Brady and leave D.C United in the USA. He did have several offers to manage in the Gulf State but decided against following his former international teammate Steven Gerrard in managing in the Middle East.

The former Derby County manager replaces John Eustace, who many feel was sacked unfairly. Rooney will be joined by former teammates Ashley Cole and John O’Shea in the dugout at Birmingham. The former England international’s first match in charge of the Blues will be against Middlesborough on the 21st of October.
