Official | David Guion extends contract as head coach of Bordeaux

Bordeaux have announced this afternoon that head coach David Guion will remain at the club going into next season, having signed a one-year extension which includes a clause for an extra season should the team clinch promotion.

This was also the case for the contract that the former Reims coach signed last summer, after taking charge midway through the 2021/22 season but being unable to steer Les Girondins clear of relegation from Ligue 1.

The team will now play a second straight campaign in Ligue 2, having missed out on promotion in bizarre circumstances. The final-day home match against Rodez was suspended and then ruled a defeat for the hosts after a fan ran onto the pitch to push the opposition goalscorer, Lucas Buades, after 20 minutes.

According to Sud Ouest, despite missing out on a swift return to the top flight, Guion had the support of several senior players within the squad, while his ability to develop young players has been lauded.
