Sud Ouest report this afternoon that Bordeaux are set to have their hearing with the FFF’s appeals commission over their relegation to the third tier on July 5.
The DNCG – French football’s financial watchdog – demoted the team to the third division, having already been relegated to Ligue 2 after finishing last in the top flight this campaign – over the club’s financial issues.
These notably include a €40m deficit which needs to be covered before being given the green light to continue in professional football. Club owner and president Gérard Lopez now has 11 days to finalise talks with the team’s creditors King Street and Fortress.
These are reportedly focused on convincing them to waive their €8-10m profit share on Aurélien Tchouaméni’s move to Real Madrid from Monaco – the midfielder having come through the Bordeaux academy – as well as a guarantee of €14m worth of player sales this summer, as first reported by 20 Minutes.
Sud Ouest add that the negotiations also include finalising the transfer of responsibility for half of the debt they hold – €26m – to Lopez’s Jogo Bonito, the company through which he owns the club. The latter will also put another €10m on the table.
The city hall has also agreed to a moratorium on the €5m owed by the club for use of the stadium – this will not be included in the €40m needed to gather, but it will help when presenting the club’s budget for next season, which will also take place in the hearing.
