RB Leipzig are preparing a second bid for Lens forward Loïs Openda (23), according to Sky Germany journalist Phillip Hinze. Leipzig made their first approach worth a combined €32m earlier this week, but their bid was rejected.
The East German club’s second bid for the Belgian striker is worth a combined €35m. The deal would include a base fee of €30m with add-ons potentially taking the overall value of the deal to €35m. If Leipzig’s offer is accepted by Lens, Openda would become the Red Bull-owned club’s record signing.
Openda has had a stellar season for Les Sangs et Or, scoring 21 goals and assisting a further 4 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions. After playing such an integral part in Lens’ qualification for the Champions League, the club are reluctant to see him leave Northern France. This feeling is shared by Openda’s manager, Franck Haise, who is keen to maintain a competitive squad ahead of participation in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
