L’Équipe report today that Zoumana Camara, the long-time Paris Saint-Germain defender who now works as a youth team coach for the Ligue 1 leaders, is set to leave the club this summer.
The U19 team coach, whose contract expires at the end of the campaign, won three Ligue 1 titles with the team as a player, turning out between 2007 and 2015.
Camara, who was part of the first-team coaching staff between 2015 and 2021, is reportedly interesting in making the step up to becoming a manager. He had been linked with the then-vacant Brest dugout back in January, as well as Sochaux at the end of last season. The latter club may come back for him this summer, given manager Olivier Guégan’s future looks uncertain.
PSG themselves want to keep Camara in the French capital, but no contract extension offer has been made as of yet. Luca Cattani and Yohan Cabaye, who manage the youth academy, have been carrying out interviews with external coaches of late, although the club insists that these are only being carried out to recruit backroom staff, and not head coaches.
Should this be he last season at PSG, for now, Camara will look to go out on a high – his U19 team are currently second in Group A of the U19 leagues. They are in a position to qualify for the final tournament, where they will be looking to go all the way and win the national championship.
