OGC Nice’s Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel (36) agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich, before the Bundesliga giants sealed Mönchengladbach keeper Yann Sommer’s arrival, Foot Mercato are reporting. According to the outlet, talks stalled this week between Bayern and the Rhine outfit regarding the transfer of the Swiss international. So, as a back-up plan, the Bavarian outfit contacted Schmeichel’s entourage and agreed personal terms with the former Leicester man with ease. The Ineos-owned Nice management knew about it and promised to give the move a green light as a loan with option to buy, but only if they were to find an adequate replacement between the sticks.
Nice failed in their pursuit of a goalkeeper and, before they gave up hope, Mönchengladbach came to terms with Sommer’s exit and sanctioned his move to the Allianz Arena. The move was made official on Thursday and die Fohlen quickly replaced the departing Sommer with fellow countryman Montpellier shot-stopper Jonas Omlin. But for a few days time, 36-year-old Schmeichel thought he’d trade mid-table Nice for Champions League and Bundesliga favourites Bayern Munich.
