Caen announce head coach Stéphane Moulin’s wife Armelle’s passing

Normandy club SM Caen and its head coach Stéphane Moulin are in mourning today. Caen have announced today via press release that Armelle Moulin, Stéphane’s wife, has passed away after a battle with illness.

The club’s press release reads:

It is with great sadness that Stade Malherbe Caen learnt today of the passing of Armelle Moulin, wife of Stéphane Moulin, club manager.”

The thoughts of President Olivier Pickeu, Pierre-Antoine Capton, shareholders, employees and volunteers at the club go out to the family and loved ones.”

At this time more than ever, Stade Malherbe Caen is united behind the coach and his children.”

After their French Cup game against Vire on the 21st of December, Stéphane took a leave of absence to be with his wife at her bedside. Whilst he has been gone, assistant Patrice Sauvaget has taken the reins, leading Caen to a loss and two draws in the league against Bastia, Saint-Étienne, and Bordeaux respectively.

Caen, eighth in Ligue 2, play away at Sochaux on Saturday afternoon, a game that Stéphane Moulin is not expected to attend. French Ligue 2 clubs have expressed their condolences and solidarity with both the club and the Moulin family via Twitter, including Saint-Étienne, Bordeaux, Sochaux, Grenoble, and Laval.

The thoughts of the Get Football team are with SM Caen, Stéphane Moulin, and his four children.
