As Newcastle continue their attempts to sign the central midfielder tonight, the excellent Steve Wyss gives you a summary of the player’s abilities:
Ngolo Kante was signed by Ligue 2 side Caen in June 2013 following an excellent National division campaign with Boulogne. Kante was only expected to ‘compete’ for a starting place initially, but had a superb pre season forcing the coach to change his plans. Kante was known for playing on the wings at Boulogne last year, but he’s very versatile and capable of playing in central midfield too. Kante has made an amazing start to the Ligue 2 campaign and really caught the eye.
He was named unanimously as Caen’s player of the month for August, which says a lot because statistically other players were better. Kante is also in contention to win the Ligue 2 player of the month award. What has impressed me most about him has been an a amazing work rate and energy drive. He is developing into a proper box to box midfielder and his ball recovery and vision is superb. At just 22, this guy has bags of potential.
