Napoli still holding out for Kim Min-Jae deal despite verbal agreement with Rennes

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli are not giving up on a deal for South Korean centre-back Kim Min-Jae despite a verbal agreement being made with Stade Rennais last week. Napoli are now reportedly working on new direct talks in Instanbul.

It was reported last week that the player was set to fly to France to complete his transfer after Rennes had reached an agreement with Fenerbahçe and the player – beating both Marseille and Napoli to the South Korean international. However Napoli have reopened talks in Istanbul as they are yet to give up on the player.

Rennes have reportedly paid the centre-back’s release clause valued at €19.5m to bring him to France – after the Breton side’s attempts to sign Samuel Umtiti halted after the player failed his medical.

The Bretons are keen to sign several quality replacements to fill the hole in defence left by Nayef Aguerd’s departure to West Ham United  – and were interested in the 40-capped South Korean international since last month. Min-Jae impressed last season in Turkey, making 30 appearances and scoring 1 goal.
