Laurent Blanc could be sacked if Lyon lose to PSG next weekend

According to L’Équipe, Laurent Blanc’s job as manager of Olympique Lyonnais could be under threat if Lyon suffer a defeat to Paris Saint-Germain this weekend. The former Manchester United defender has been under pressure since the start of the season after a dismal showing in pre-season with Les Gones‘ attack looking rather goal-shy.

This pressure has only heightened with the season now underway, with Lyon only managing to pick up one point from their opening three Ligue 1 matches. OL’s two defeats were convincing too – 4-1 vs. Montpellier and 3-1 vs. Strasbourg. The former France and PSG boss has already cast doubt about his own future at the Groupama Stadium; when asked about what needed to change, he replied “You have to change the manager“.

The Rhone club’s poor start to the season is another grey cloud over what has already been a difficult summer for the club. With the club forced to sell Castello Lukeba due to DNCG transfer restrictions and limitations on the transfer business Matthieu Louis-Jean has been able to conduct, the transfer window has been a struggle. It could get worse too, with French U21 international Bradley Barcola informing the club he wants to leave.
