Monaco considering moves for Elye Wahi and Folarin Balogun following Breel Embolo ACL injury

Foot Mercato are reporting that AS Monaco are considering signing a replacement for Breel Embolo (26), who has suffered a severe ACL injury, which threatens to rule him out for the majority of the season. Elye Wahi (20) and Folarin Balogun (22) are both being considered.

Wissam Ben Yedder, Kevin Volland and Myron Boadu remain as Monaco’s attacking options. However, Ben Yedder and Volland have just one year remaining on their contracts, and both have been linked with a departure this summer. Boadu is yet to find his feet in Ligue 1 since his move from the Eredivisie two years ago.

The Principality club are therefore considering reinforcing their attack and may re-explore deals for Wahi and Balogun – two strikers that Monaco have already considered recruiting. Les Monégasques may have their work cut out, however. Monaco have just sold Axel Disasi (25) to Chelsea for €45m, however, recruiting Wahi or Balogun would represent a considerable financial investment. Both players are valued at €40 by their respective clubs.

Both players are coveted as well. Inter Milan are targeting Arsenal’s Balogun, whilst Chelsea have already submitted an opening offer for Montpellier’s Wahi.
