Is Anthony Gordon Newcastle’s answer to Kylian Mbappé?

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was speaking to the press ahead of his side facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. One player who was receiving heaps of praise from both English and French media alike was the Toon‘s Anthony Gordon (22). After scoring and assisting against Chelsea in a 4-1 win in the Premier League, the 22-year-old Englishman is being tipped to be Newcastle’s biggest threat against Les Parisiens tomorrow night. The following was transcribed by Get French Football News editor George Boxall.

When Eddie Howe was asked whether he thought Gordon was ‘Newcastle’s Kylian Mbappé’, the English manager was complimentary to his young attacker. “He’s been in great form for us. We knew we signed a player with huge potential with passing and technical ability. When you look at his last game he scored a brilliant goal.

‘He plays on the edge and is a fierce competitor’

“We’re encouraging him to keep adding valuable goal contributions. He is a unique player who has a high physical output every week, playing on the edge as a fierce competitor. His emergence has been quite quick this year, and I’m sure Gareth will pick him in the future.”

Newcastle head into the match at the Parc des Princes needing a result. A loss against Les Parisiens could see them reach the end of the road of Champions League competition this season if the result between AC Milan and Dortmund does not go their way. Will some magic from the young Englishman be able to harm PSG at the Parc?
